Hello Mamas!

Jordan Page from FunCheapOrFree.com and BudgetBootCamp.com here. May brings beautiful flowers, sunshine, and Mother’s Day! I love this time of year we get to focus on our own mothers and other women who inspire us. One thing I was taught early on by these mothers is that self care is not selfish, it’s a necessity! With that in mind, here are 5 ways we can all take a little “me time” and de-stress as a mom.

1. Meditate

Meditation is about calming your body, focusing your mind, and being present. It requires a calm and quiet space which isn’t always easily available as a mom. Set aside some time each day to just sit and be still. It can be five minutes or one minute, it really doesn’t matter. Clear your mind, breathe deeply, and find that inner calm amidst the everyday beautiful chaos.

2. Spa Day

What mom wouldn't love a spa day? Check places like Groupon and Living Social for deals on massages, pedicures, and other spa treatments in your area. If you can’t get away do an at home spa day! Head to the store and pick up face masks, bath crystals, or go look up some DIY recipes on Pinterest. Use the Flipp app to find many of these ingredients on sale. However you do it, take time to pamper yourself!

3. Exercise

We all know exercise is important for our physical health but it's equally as important for our mental health. Even just five minutes a day can improve sleep and reduce stress. So how do we fit it in as busy moms? There are TONS of free workout programs online and on YouTube that you could try while the kids are napping or at school. If you really can't find a way to fit it in without the kids, then include them! Go for a walk, a jog, or do some circuit training using equipment at the park playground.

4. Girls Night

Girls just want to have fun, right?! Grab a few of your BFFs and enjoy a night on the town! Go to dinner, dancing, a movie...the ideas are endless. If going out isn't your thing, plan a girls night in! Invite your friends over for mani/pedis, dinner, or a movie. One of my favorite nights in is a restaurant tasting where everyone brings a small sample of their favorite take out food, like one dessert or appetizer. It's a fun way to try new things!

5. Nap Time

Nap time isn't just for kids! I don't know about you but I'm definitely not hitting the recommended 8 hours of sleep every single night. A nap can be the perfect way to rest and relax, giving your body that extra boost it needs. Set yourself up for a good nap with your favorite pillow and blanket and a dark room. You can even pick up a lavender pillow spray and eye mask to make it extra luxurious.

So there you go, my top tips for destressing! I share more about motherhood and #momlife over on FunCheapOrFree.com and share all my budgeting secrets on BudgetBootCamp.com so check them all out, and Happy Mother’s Day!
