One of the best things about Fall is the whole pumpkin spice creep. You know how pumpkin spice-flavored ANYTHING starts appearing on store shelves at the end of August?

I have to admit that some pumpkin spice food items are better than others (you can have the PS hummus, thanks), but pumpkin itself is also a delicious and versatile ingredient, even without the spice part.

When I mention pumpkin, you probably think about pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice lattes, and jack o’ lanterns. That’s pretty much it. But this beautiful orange winter squash doesn’t only like sweetness — it can also be used in savoury recipes.

Pumpkin is super healthy, with high amounts of vitamin A and potassium. It’s also budget-friendly and easy to use, especially when you opt for the canned type. If you’re using a fresh pumpkin to cook with, make sure you choose the sugar pie variety, which are the small ones. The huge jack o’lantern pumpkins aren’t the best to cook with (plus, who needs all that pumpkin?)

Use it for: Snacks

These 150-calorie chocolate chip-filled little morsels will give you the energy to make it through to your next meal! They’re also great for breakfast, and they’re free of the top five allergens. Score.
